Organic Disorders
These differ from the above disorders in that they are a direct result of an identifiable malfunction. The disorder may develop suddenly (e.g. brain damage caused by road traffic accident) or over a prolonged period (e.g. senile dementia). In some cases, total recovery is possible with treatment. If, however, the damage is irreversible, treatment is aimed at assisting the person to cope with his/her disability, and trying to prevent further deterioration.
